Court Rules – New England Racquet Sports

General Court Rules

New England Racquet Sports at Thayer Sports Center features both members and guests. (Do not need to be from Braintree to Join)

Players are required to present a photo ID to the concierge table upon arrival as well as pay assigned fees in order to play.

All players must be registered for daily play using our online court reservation system.

Drop in play at this time is via reserved court time between those who are familiar with each other. Future drop in play for those who do not have a set group will be possible via a compiled list of interested parties who submit their email addresses.

All children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Membership does not include tennis courts.

Court Usage

Both singles and doubles are allowed. Players are not allowed to drill using multiple balls after 8am. Outside instructors are prohibited from conducting instruction of any kind. Please finish your court session in a timely fashion as others may be using the court next. To minimize halting play on active courts, please come and go as a group as much as possible.

Safety

While not mandatory but highly recommended, safety glasses are encouraged. A growing number of pickleball players have suffered avoidable eye injuries from not wearing protective eyewear.

Please be advised that if players choose not to wear protective eyewear while playing, they do so at their own risk. Should a player then subsequently suffer an eye injury, Thayer Sports Center and affiliates assumes no responsibility and cannot be held liable.

When a ball from another court enters your playing area, a warning call of “let” should immediately be called and play stops at that moment. The person retrieving the ball shall determine which court the ball from and return it there only. Please refrain from slapping or swiping at the ball to get it off your court. No personal chairs are allowed.

General Conduct

This is a social game that certainly can be competitive. Members and Guests are to conduct themselves in a friendly and courteous manner at all times. Foul language, heated arguments, un- sportsperson like behavior and any other disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.

Rules may be updated based upon needs and member input. It is the responsibility of all members and guests to read any notices posted on the New England Racquet Sports bulletin board. Failure to comply with these rules or other actions deemed unacceptable could result in suspension of playing privileges including the non-refunding of monies.

Dress Code

Casual court clothing is acceptable. Shirts and court shoes must be worn at all times for your safety. Running shoes and cross training shoes are not considered court shoes as they do not provide adequate lateral stability and support. All belongings brought to the courts must be stowed away from the playing area.
